Miller Plasma Cutter - Information and Tips

On this page we feature some information on the Miller Plasma Cutter or other models.

Plasma cutting is a process to cut steel or other metals of varying thickness using a plasma torch. The way it works is an inert gas or sometimes compressed air is blown at high speeds out the nozzle. Meanwhile, an electrical arc is formed from the gas in the nozzle to the surface being cut which turns some of that gas into plasma. The plasma is hot enough to melt the metal and fast enough to blow molten metal away from the cut.

Plasma is effective at cutting both thick and thin materials. Torches that are hand-held can usually cut up to 2 inches thick steel plate. These cutters are very useful for cutting sheet metal in curved or angled shapes since they have a very hot and localize cone. New technologies have allowed these tools to work on non-conductive materials as well.

Smaller nozzles and thinner plasma arcs are some of the recent improvements made to these tools. This allows near-laser quality on edges cut by plasma. Some models can produce parts that require little to no finishing. Newer models also weight less than the older ones did.

Prices have come down lately as well. You should be able to find a Miller Plasma Cutter online for a decent price. In fact, they can even be considered by hobbyists. Some models have powerful amps and cases that provide excellent protection.

Some models have a low weight making them easier to work with. Also, you can expect some new auto features to save time and make adjustments for you. Other features you can look for are high performance cooling systems, automatic consumable detection, automatic air regulation, auto refire technology, led indicators for power pressure and temperature, lower purchase and operating costs, LVC line voltage compensation, wind tunnel technology, fan on demand cooling systems, and more.

As you can see, there is quite a lot to like about these new models. Have a look online and see what you can see. I'm sure you'll find a model to suit your needs.
